…and 3 Therapies That Can Help You Heal

Trauma doesn’t just live in your thoughts.
It lives in your body.
Maybe it shows up as a tight chest, an unsettled gut, or the way your shoulders stay braced even when you think you’re “fine.” Maybe you feel shut down, wired but tired, or anxious for no obvious reason. That’s not you being broken — that’s your nervous system doing its best to protect you.At Mind Body Healing Collective, we understand that trauma healing isn’t just about talking through what happened. It’s about helping your body feel safe again. That’s why we focus on therapies that support nervous system regulation, mind-body reconnection, and meaningful, lasting change.
Sensory dysregulation is often a key part of how trauma affects the nervous system—tools like the AASP can help identify those patterns.
What Actually Happens to the Nervous System After Trauma?
When we face something overwhelming — a loss, a toxic relationship, a car accident, chronic stress, or childhood neglect — our body’s built-in survival systems take over. This is the fight, flight, freeze (and sometimes fawn) response.
The problem? These protective patterns can linger. Long after the threat has passed, your body might still be bracing for impact. You might feel:
- Chronically anxious or hyper-alert
- Easily overwhelmed or emotionally reactive
- Numb, disconnected, or shut down
- Exhausted no matter how much you rest
- Tense, achy, or stuck in cycles of pain or illness
These aren’t “symptoms” to fix — they’re signals. Your body is asking for support.
3 Therapies That Support Nervous System Healing
There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to trauma recovery. But these three modalities — all offered at Mind Body Healing Collective — are designed to work with your nervous system, not against it. Each one can help you come home to yourself.
1. Somatic Experiencing®

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-first approach to healing trauma. It helps you reconnect with your internal cues, track survival responses in real time, and build the capacity to stay present — without becoming overwhelmed.
In SE, you might learn to:
- Notice and release tension or constriction
- Tune into subtle nervous system shifts
- Cultivate a felt sense of safety and grounding
This work is especially supportive for those who feel “stuck” in high activation or shutdown — and don’t always know why.
2. Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
The Safe and Sound Protocol uses specially filtered music to support regulation through the vagus nerve — your body’s built-in safety system. It’s a non-invasive way to ease chronic stress, trauma, or sensory overwhelm.
Many clients report:
- Feeling calmer, more focused, and less reactive
- Decreased sensitivity to sound and stress
- A greater sense of connection in relationships
SSP isn’t a stand-alone treatment — it’s designed to complement the therapy you’re already doing, whether somatic, cognitive, or relational. By helping your nervous system settle, it can gently deepen and enhance your overall healing process.
3. EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps the brain safely reprocess distressing memories. It’s especially effective when trauma feels “stuck” — or when talk therapy hasn’t been enough.
Using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), EMDR supports the brain’s natural healing process. You don’t need to relive everything to heal — but you do need a pathway that feels safe, structured, and contained.
You also may greatly benefit from our Trauma Therapy Intensives. Longer sessions. Lasting healing.
Healing Is Possible — And You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
If your nervous system feels out of sync, know this: you’re not too much, and you’re not too late. Healing is possible. It’s not always linear — but with the right support, it is real.
At Mind Body Healing Collective, we meet you where you are. We walk with you as you learn to feel safe in your body, regulate your nervous system, and reclaim a sense of agency and connection in your life.
Whether you’re looking for support in Scottsdale or virtually from wherever you are, we’re here to help you take the next step.
