What Is an Intensive Trauma Therapy Program?
If traditional 50-minute weekly therapy sessions just aren’t cutting it, and you’re ready to elevate your healing journey, our trauma therapy intensives could be exactly what you need. Here’s why:
Deep Healing Beyond the Surface: You’ve gained insights in therapy, but something still feels stuck. Intensives allow you to dive deeper, addressing the root causes of your trauma with the time and space you need to make real, lasting change.

What Makes MBHC Trauma Therapy Intensives Unique
At Mind Body Healing Collective, trauma therapy intensives integrate multiple trauma-informed approaches in a single, cohesive healing experience.
Your intensive may include:
• Somatic Experiencing® to support nervous system regulation
• EMDR therapy for trauma processing
• Mind-body integration techniques
• Optional complementary healing services such as trauma-sensitive yoga, breathwork, or Reiki
This integrative approach helps address trauma from both a psychological and physiological perspective.
When weekly therapy falls short, our trauma intensives provide deep, tailored healing for real, lasting change
How is intensive therapy more cost effective and time efficient than weekly therapy?
Weekly 50 minute therapy typically includes:
- 10 minutes of checking in from the last session
- 30 minutes of trauma processing
- 10 minutes of closing the session
Weekly 50-minute therapy sessions can often fall short in addressing pressing issues effectively. You might spend an entire month focusing on a single stressor, costing close to $1,000 for those four sessions.
However, in reality, new challenges arise between sessions, and your focus can shift week-to-week, making it hard to maintain consistent progress.
This can result in being in therapy for a longer time—potentially costing thousands of dollars—without fully resolving the immediate issues causing you stress.
Intensive therapy typically includes:
- 10-15 minutes of checking in, establishing session focus
- 150-160 minutes of Somatic Experiencing deeper level trauma processing
- 10-15 minutes closing the session
With intensive therapy, you have the potential to resolve one or more stressors in just half a day, typically costing around $2,000.
Three hours of Somatic Experiencing in an intensive format can be as effective as double the number of traditional talk therapy sessions, meaning you accomplish more in less time and ultimately need fewer sessions overall.
The result? You start feeling better sooner. Plus, you won’t have to keep taking time off work or arranging childcare for multiple sessions, saving you both time and money.
The bottom line: 1-3 days can change your life.
Who Trauma Therapy Intensives Are For
Trauma therapy intensives are ideal for individuals in Scottsdale and beyond who are looking for focused, dedicated time for support, prefer a somatic-based approach, or have busy lives that make weekly sessions difficult to maintain. It’s especially beneficial for trauma survivors, helping professionals, and those stuck in traditional therapy with limited progress.
You may also incorporate EMDR or Somatic Experiencing® into your intensive.
Because intensives offer a different pace and structure than weekly therapy, it can be helpful to consider whether this format aligns with what you need right now. The goal of an intensive is not to rush healing, but to create enough supported space for meaningful work to happen safely.
If traditional 50-minute weekly therapy sessions just aren’t cutting it, and you’re ready to elevate your healing journey, our trauma therapy intensives could be exactly what you need. Here’s why:
Therapy intensives may be a strong fit if you:
Are looking for focused, supported time to work on a specific theme or pattern
Feel ready to explore deeper material without the stop-and-start of weekly scheduling
Have some existing coping skills or support systems in place outside of sessions
Want to make meaningful progress on something that feels “stuck” despite past therapy
Prefer an immersive experience that allows your nervous system to stay engaged rather than restarting each week
Are able to set aside protected time before and after sessions for rest and integration
An intensive may not be the best starting point if you:
Are currently in crisis or needing immediate stabilization
Do not yet have tools to regulate when strong emotions arise
Are hoping for a quick solution without ongoing support afterward
Have limited time or space for rest and integration between sessions
Would benefit more from building safety and trust gradually through weekly therapy first

Trauma Therapy Intensive FAQs
- A Trauma Therapy Intensive is a personalized treatment plan that allows you to bypass traditional waitlists and receive timely access to specialized care. We work with your preferred schedule and timeline, offering flexibility and precision in your treatment goals.
- Trauma Therapy Intensives are structured to give you more concentrated time for healing. Instead of the standard 50-minute sessions, our intensives involve 3-hour sessions each day, which can be scheduled for one day or multiple days. This format allows us to dive deeply into your presenting concerns without the interruptions of shorter sessions.
- Trauma Therapy Intensives streamline the therapeutic process. This means less time spent on routine check-ins, addressing current crises, or stabilizing and coping skills that are less relevant once healing progresses. Instead, we concentrate on the core issues and integrate your new insights and shifts directly into the work.
- To further support your process, we offer a range of supplemental integrative services that can be added to your intensive. These include mental health occupational therapy, trauma-sensitive yoga, breath work, reiki, sound healing, acupuncture, cranial sacral therapy, and massage. You may also explore our monthly trauma-informed wellness workshops, which offer a supportive group environment to reinforce nervous system regulation and healing between or after intensives. These complementary services are designed to enhance your healing experience, offering a well-rounded approach to your mental and physical well-being..
Trauma therapy intensives are best suited for individuals who feel ready for deeper work and have some foundational coping tools in place. For others, beginning with weekly trauma-informed therapy may provide the support needed before exploring an intensive format.
- You’re looking for profound change and want results quickly. Intensives offer deep therapeutic work designed to create significant impact in a shorter time frame.
- You’re still affected by painful past experiences. Intensives help you address and heal lingering pain more thoroughly than weekly sessions alone.
- You have time off and want to use it for deep healing. Turn your break into a mental spa day or personal retreat with our intensive sessions.
- You’ve done trauma work before and want to accelerate your healing. Intensives deepen and speed up your progress, helping you move through life with greater freedom.
- You’re preparing for a major life event. Intensives can help you get emotionally and mentally ready for significant changes like a wedding, move, or new job.
- You feel stuck in weekly therapy and need a boost. Intensives provide extra support to help you break through and reach your goals faster.
- Before diving into the Intensive, we’ll schedule a Pre-Intensive Interview to understand your unique needs and goals. We’ll explore your current stressors, your support system, and how you handle overwhelming emotions and physical sensations. Together, we’ll identify the areas where you seek relief, growth, or a significant breakthrough. We will also discuss optional supplemental services that are designed to accelerate your growth and healing.
- You will receive a personalized treatment workbook that includes assessments and activities to prepare for the Intensive. The workbook allows you to keep a record of progress on your treatment goals before, during, and after our sessions.
- During the Intensive, we focus on both alleviating the pain you’re experiencing and enhancing your connection with more positive feelings, thoughts, and memories. Through the use of somatic experiencing and attachment work and other trauma-informed modalities, we’ll help you process and integrate these experiences at a deep, body-based level.
- Whether it’s exploring past relationships, present challenges, or future anxieties, our approach is entirely customized to meet your specific needs and goals. You’ll learn coping strategies that resonate with you, enabling you to navigate your emotions and experiences more effectively.
- After the Intensive, we’ll have a Post-Intensive Interview to reflect on your journey. We’ll discuss the insights you’ve gained, what was most impactful, and how to incorporate these new understandings into your daily life moving forward.
- To enhance your therapy intensive, we offer personalized supplementary services designed to accelerate your growth and healing. During your pre-intensive interview, we’ll collaborate to choose the most suitable enhancements that align with your unique therapy goals. Each premium service is available for an additional $200, enriching your path to well-being.
- These personalized services include: acupuncture, breathwork, cranial sacral therapy, massage therapy, mental health occupational therapy, polarity therapy, reiki, sound healing and trauma sensitive yoga.
- A 1-day therapy intensive offers you the opportunity to achieve significant therapeutic progress in a condensed time frame. In one extended, focused session, you can dive deeply into a specific issue that needs more attention than what weekly sessions allow, accelerating your healing process. This intensive format is particularly effective for reducing the harmful effects of single-event trauma, helping you process and release negative thoughts, disturbing emotions, and physical sensations. Additionally, you’ll gain valuable coping skills that you can immediately practice and integrate during the session.
- While significant progress can be made in a single day intensive, those dealing with complex trauma may benefit from ongoing support. Many clients with complex trauma find that continuing with monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly intensives allows them to dive deeper into their healing journey over time.
- A 2-day or 3-day therapy intensive offers even more profound benefits than a 1-day session, providing extended time to dive deep into therapeutic work, allowing you to accomplish the equivalent of weeks of therapy in just a few days. These extended intensives give you the space to thoroughly explore and process complex issues that may have surfaced during regular sessions, allowing for more significant breakthroughs and healing.
- These multi-day intensives function as personal retreats, giving you the time to focus solely on your healing. We encourage you to leave time outside of sessions unscheduled or filled only with self-care activities like exercise, bodywork, or creative expression—activities that are crucial for integrating the work done in therapy. Mind Body Healing Collective offers these supplemental services based on your interests and needs, enhancing your overall experience.
- Intensive trauma-focused therapy appears to be well tolerated by PTSD patients, often leading to faster symptom reduction with comparable or even improved results, and lowering the likelihood of patients dropping out early.
